This winter transfer market is typically a period of feverish speculation and possible big-money deals. Several high-profile players are being linked with moves away from their present teams. We examine some of the key names that are poised to be on the move in January.

A. Semenyo

Despite Ghana's failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, which has kept the forward in contention, reports suggest an important transfer is close. This Bournemouth attacker has a contract with a substantial buy-out clause active for a brief window in early January. Latest reports point to the Premier League champions are now the frontrunners for his services. Other suitors such as Tottenham and Chelsea are said to have moved on to alternative targets, potentially opening the door for teams such as Manchester United or Liverpool to make a late move.

M. Guéhi

This English centre-back has excel for Crystal Palace despite a previous move to Liverpool collapsing. As his contract set to run out in the close season, this represents the London club's final chance to obtain a fee for their captain. Numerous elite clubs, such as Manchester City and multiple continental powerhouses including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, are believed to be interested. However, a January exit is considered unlikely, particularly given the manager's dependence on the player.

B. Johnson

The Welsh forward has had first-team opportunities hard to come by at Tottenham this term. Despite being the club's top scorer the previous campaign, Johnson has begun just a handful of Premier League matches. Reports suggest the London outfit is open to a sale for the correct valuation, believed to be in the region of forty million pounds. The Cherries appear to be at the front of the queue, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also credited with an inquiry.

Rúben Neves

The Portuguese midfielder could be set for a return to the English top flight following a period in Saudi Arabia. Now only 28, while his contract expiring in the summer of 2026, he is a potential bargain. Clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United are linked with the player. Additionally, there have been rumours from Spain that he is willing to take a pay cut for a switch to Real Madrid.

Marc-André ter Stegen

This veteran German goalkeeper finds himself as the third option at Barça under the coach Hansi Flick. After fallen out of favour and undergone an operation, a winter departure looks increasingly probable. Aston Villa were initially mentioned as a potential destination, but that option currently seems unlikely. Instead, clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are reportedly expressing curiosity in the 33-year-old.

I. Toney

This proven English centre-forward has kept scoring regularly in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League could boost his fading chances of being in the England squad. But, securing a transfer presents major challenges. Al-Ahli are reluctant to part with him, and his alleged huge salary make any agreement difficult. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton are all linked as admirers.

C. Gallagher

This energetic midfielder attracted widespread attention in the off-season but stayed at Atlético. With limited starts in Spain this term, he may be keen to find more minutes ahead of the tournament. H. Elliott

Although excelling and winning the best player award at the U21 Euros last summer, the young midfielder has found it tough for game time during his loan spell at Aston Villa. Unai Emery has stated the temporary transfer will not become permanent. Because of FIFA regulations about representing two clubs in a season, a move back to Liverpool before next summer seems to be the sole available solution.

Kenan Yildiz

The exciting Turkish forward is in fine form for Juventus this term. With his current contract running down, many Premier League sides – including Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are monitoring the developments. The Turin club are eager to tie down the youngster to a lengthy contract but face a race to keep one of the continent's most promising prospects.

K. Smit

This highly-touted Netherlands midfielder has drawn parallels to a Belgian superstar for his playing style. Following starring at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has become a regular in the AZ Alkmaar first team. This 19-year-old is widely expected to make a major transfer in January. Newcastle reportedly are frontrunners, but could face strong rivalry from Real Madrid for a deal valued at around twenty-two million pounds.
