19 of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been won on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player secured his initial title for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a challenging period, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in particular - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-term coach Cervara.

Now training with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents his maiden title after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface since March of 2023.

Victory also means the Russian has secured 21 titles at 21 different events.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters together, so to get a championship is really nice," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his last six championship matches, featuring in Halle in the past months.

The player's counter-punching play style and recurring emotional displays on court had caused commentators to wonder if his capacity to play at the elite level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and compete assertively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging opponent, securing 4 of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his initial professional championship, seized the initiative to force a third set.

Moutet saved four initial opportunities in a close final set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, the winner earned victory with a rally at the net area, with Moutet failing to handle a return after a lengthy match.
