The Princess of Wales's Traditional Christmas Carol Concert Honours Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.

The 1,600 guests will enjoy a mix of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from performers including Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

A Theme of Compassion and Love

The central message of the concert, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, a support fund, to aid parents with a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own gradual return to the public eye after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey can listen to talented youth performers backed by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the Duchess of Kent to widen access to musical tuition.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been assisted by the organisation, with grants helping towards equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in tonight's service.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to hone their artistic talents.

A Family Affair

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who is a euphonium player, will likewise attend the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a young hero award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to generate funds for food banks.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been decorated with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Taking to the stage will be Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "a dream come true."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
